Job Summary

We are looking to add an Associate Medical Writer to our team. This is an entry level writer role, working with more experienced writers to assist with basic editorial tasks across a range of editorial deliverables. Designated tasks may include scientific fact checking, reference marking-up, slide templating, PowerPoint redraws, and copyright permissions. Responsible for completing assigned editorial tasks in an efficient and timely manner and to high standards. With experience, expected to demonstrate competency in core editorial skills and an aptitude for increasingly challenging tasks (e.g. editing expert-generated copy and straight-forward writing), with a view to progressing to MW.

Main Tasks and Responsibilities:

  • Following a briefing by a more senior medical writer:
    • To identify appropriate source materials/references through literature searching and other on-line searches, and summarise the findings of these searches in written or verbal form as required
    • To take in client comments on written materials
    • To develop simple written materials such as invitation text, congress abstracts, outlines and/or copy for poster presentations
    • To develop slide copy and support writers with referencing and formatting/reformatting of PowerPoint slides in order to develop an understanding of the requirements both in terms of level of supporting evidence and in terms of expectations for formatting
  • To undertake a variety of other tasks as may be required to support the writing team (eg journal searches to identify appropriate targets for submission, KOL identification, etc)
  • To demonstrate a solid scientific understanding, a high level of accuracy and an aptitude for structuring and developing written materials
  • To develop an understanding of, and adhere to, internal processes for review, QC and scheduling
  • To organise workload effectively, with guidance for prioritisation from a more senior medical writer as required
  • To liaise with other members of the internal team and external suppliers as required in a timely and efficient manner

Experience and Qualifications Required:

  • Development of written materials as part of degree/PhD, or other activities
  • Demonstrated interest in medical writing, and shows an aptitude for writing and a sound scientific understanding
  • BSc / MSc / PhD or equivalent
